Through requesting a propagation study from the market-leading smart meter vendors, the various design options are presented based on data provided on the current meter locations and municipal-owned infrastructure. Each vendor also presents their specific performance goals for the system, which includes read accuracy and assurances of the technology as presented. All assumptions made in the analysis, such as meter locations or regional topography, are specifically listed as well. Differences in system performance, costs, and technical functionalities are considered against the objectives of the utility for investments in smart metering technology. MeterSYS assembles and evaluates the submitted studies to make additional recommendations and provide supporting materials detailing the various proposed solutions so that each design and product can be vetted and evaluated.
